Book Summary “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” are placed in the middle of 19th century in a small town called St. Petersburg. The main character is a boy named Tom Sawyer who lives with his aunt Polly and younger brother Sid. He is a playful boy who does a lot of pranks and we can tell that at the beginning of the novel. Most of the adventures recorded in this book really occurred; one or two were experiences of my own, the rest those of boys who were schoolmates of mine. Huck Finn is drawn from life; Tom Sawyer also, but not from an individual -- he is a combination of the characteristics of three boys whom I knew, and therefore belongs to the composite order.

Just then, Tom Sawyer appears behind her, causing her to slam the book closed in fright – and tear a page in the process. Becky, realizing that she's in for quite a beating, shoves the book back in the drawer, bursts out crying and starts blaming Tom almost simultaneously.
